About Us
The Operating Engineers College (OEC) is a licensed and accredited heavy equipment and mobile crane training facility located in Holyrood, Newfoundland, 45 kilometers west of St. John's on the Salmonier Line. Established in 1992, OEC was initiated by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 904 to address the identified skill shortage of crane operators in Newfoundland and Labrador. The College’s inaugural tower crane course, supported by principal contractors like NODECO and PASSB, trained 48 operators for the Hibernia project. Today, OEC continues to meet industry needs by securing funding for apprenticeship and enhancement training, ensuring workers have essential skills for the evolving economy.
